Talking to a Scribe

He's Lost!

Jesus grew up in Nazareth and every year his parents went to Jerusalem for the Passover Feast.  When he was twelve years old, they went to the Feast as usual and when it was over, Jesus' parents started returning home.  However, they were unaware that Jesus had stayed behind in Jerusalem.

A day later when they couldn't find Jesus, Mary exclaimed, "He's lost!"  And when they questioned their relatives, nobody had seen Him!  Have you ever been lost?  (Let the children respond).  And were you scared?  (Let the children respond).

"We had better go back to Jerusalem," said Joseph and for three anxious days they searched for Jesus.  Eventually, they found Him in the temple sitting with the teachers and priests!  He was listening to them, and asking them questions.  Everyone was amazed because He understood and knew so much about God.

God's Business:

Would your Mom and Dad have been very cross with you?  (Let the children respond).  "Son," asked Mary, "Why have you behaved like this to us.  Your father and I were worried and looked everywhere for you."  Jesus answered, "Why did you look for me?  Didn't you know that I must be about My Father's business?"

Mary and Joseph did not understand what He was saying to them.  But Jesus knew that God was His real Father, and that He needed to serve God with all His heart.  After this, Jesus went back to the town of Nazareth with His parents and obeyed them in every way.

Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought often about them, while Jesus grew up and pleased God and people in everything He did and said!

Growing Like Jesus:

God wants you to grow up and learn please Him like Jesus did in all you do and say.  If you do this, you will be a blessing to your parents and to everyone you meet.  And God will lead and guide you, and one day you will go to Heaven and hear God say, "Well done, you good and faithful child!"

God bless.
