An angel speaks to Mary

An Angel Speaks to Mary:

The angel Gabriel was sent by God to a young girl named Mary, who lived in the town of Nazareth in Galilee, and was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph.  The angel said to her, "Greetings!  The Lord is with you and you are more blessed than all women!"

Mary was so surprised, "I'm just a simple village girl and what does this greeting mean?  The angel said, "Don't be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God and will give birth to a son and name Him Jesus."

Mary's Reply:

"How can this be?" Mary asked the angel, "I'm not married and have no husband."  The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the child will be called the Son of God."

Mary replied, "I am the servant of the Lord, so let it happen just as you have said."  After the angel left her, Mary quickly packed her belongings and travelled to the home of Zacharias and her cousin Elisabeth.

Mary Visits Elizabeth:

When Mary got there she greeted her cousin and Elisabeth cried, "You are blessed and the child you will bear is blessed!  Mary was filled with joy, and sang and praised the Lord.  She then stayed with Elisabeth for about three months before returning to her home in Nazareth.

When Mary got home, she told Joseph what had happened and that she was going to have a baby.  He was very cross and because he did not want her to be a public disgrace, he decided to end their engagement.

Joseph Marries Mary:

That night an angel appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph, don't be afraid to marry Mary, because the baby in her is from the Holy Spirit.  She will give birth to a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins."

When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and married Mary.  And they both had the blessing of the Lord on their lives.

Trusting and Obeying:

Both Mary and Joseph listened to God and believed what He told them and trusted that God would do what He had said.  God always keeps His Word and does what He has promised.

And we must also listen to what God says in the Bible and believe Him.  And when we trust God and do what He says, we will please God and He will bless us too!

God bless.
