Towering Walls:
The walls of Jericho seemed impossibly high. They towered over little
Amos as he ran along trying to keep up with his family. They had
been walking around the city every day for six days now! Every day
Joshua had lined up the priests with each one carrying their trumpet.
They then walked around the walls with all the people of Israel following
in a great procession, but nobody was allowed to talk or made a noise!
And today they had walked around Jericho six times! And now Amos was
tired as they went round the seventh time. "How will the walls ever
come down so the army can defeat these people?" he wondered. Just
then the Priests blew their trumpets and Amos' father began to shout and
so did all the people of Israel!
The Walls Fall:
"This is really exciting," shouted Amos and screamed with everyone else,
"The victory is the Lord's!" Then there was silence! You could
have heard a pin drop. But, nothing happened and all the people held
their breath! Suddenly there was a loud crack! Amos gasped as
he looked up and saw great cracks appear, and the walls of Jericho began to
topple and bulged outward, and then fell with a terrible crash!
With a great cry, the soldiers rushed forward over the piles of broken walls
and in no time at all, the people in the city were defeated! Amos was
amazed at the victory the Lord gave Israel that day. "But those walls
were so high and thick," he said to his father. "Ah, but they could
never stand up to our mighty God," replied Father, "Nothing is too hard or
difficult for Him to do!"
All Things are Possible:
You see, with God nothing is impossible, and in Mark 9:23 Jesus said:
"All things are possible to him who believes."
You may have problems at school or at home, but you need to remember that
nothing too difficult for our God to do. Those walls of Jericho were
too high to climb over and too thick to smash down. But not for God,
and with His power, just a lot of shouting brought the walls tumbling down!
Because God cares for His children with a great love, we can talk to Him in
prayer and tell Him all our problems and needs. And then as we
remember that all things are possible for God, we can put all our trust in
God and know that He will answer our prayers and meet our needs.
God bless!
