Jesus told this story (Luke 15:1-6) to the tax collectors, Pharisees
and Teachers. "Suppose a man had a hundred sheep and lost
one of them. Won't he leave his ninety-nine other sheep in a
field and go and look for the lost sheep until he finds it?
And when he finds it, he picks it up and carries it on his shoulder
to his home. He then calls his friends and neighbours together
and says to them, "Rejoice with me, for I have found my lost sheep!"
In this scavenger hunt, toy lambs or sheep are hidden around the room.
The children will search for the lambs and bring them back to
a safe place that you have shown them.
Alternately, let them look for the Safe Place and stand there so that
you can tell them that they are safe. You can give them clues
such as, "You are getting Warmer," or "It's starting to get colder!"
The Safe Place:
After the game, tell them the story of the Lost Sheep and that Jesus is
the Good Shepherd, and knows His sheep" (John 10:14). Jesus
watches over each one of us, and our Safe Place is knowing that Jesus
is with us all the time!
So we don't have to be afraid of the dark or being lost, because Jesus
loves us and cares for us, and said He would never leave us.
