Make sure your children know the story of Jesus calming the storm
(Mark 4:35-41). Explain that the disciples who were in a
boat and were being tossed around by a storm while Jesus was
sleeping. The children can pretend they are the storm by
swaying their bodies back and forth.
Then after a while, tell the children to call out, "Wake-Up Jesus!"
Upon hearing this, the child pretending to be Jesus should get
up and say to the wind and the waves, "Be quiet and be still!"
Then all the children should stop swaying back and be as
quiet as mice.
Any who are slow to stop or keep moving are out. Present a
small prize to the last child left, and say, "You are the best
Storm Stopper!
Get the children to stand in a ring and choose one to lie in the
middle and pretend to be be Jesus, who is fast asleep. The
rest of the children pretend to be the storm by swaying their
bodies back and forth.
They must count to ten slowly, and then call out, "Wake-Up Jesus!"
Upon hearing this the child pretending to be Jesus gets up and
shouts, "Wind and waves be still!" All the children must
stop swaying and be quiet and still.
Any who are slow to stop or keep moving are out. Present a
small prize to the last child left and say, "You are the best
Wind Stopper!
Alternately play the game several times letting the last child be
the next Jesus. The children who are out can then rejoin
the circle each time.
God bless!
