In Norway the shepherds care for their sheep just as Jesus cares for us.
In winter the sheep are kept in a type of "house" to protect them
from the cold and keep them warm. This reminds us of Jesus who is
our Good Shepherd and loves and cares for us.
In John 10:11 Jesus said:
"I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd gives His life for the
Jesus died to save us so that we can have a home in Heaven and live with
Him for eternity.
In summer in Norway, all the flocks are sent up into the mountains to
graze. At the end of summer, a shepherd will come to where several
flocks are intermingled and call out to his sheep. Only his own
sheep respond to his voice and come to him! They then follow him
as he leads them back to their "house", where he will keep them safe
throughout the long freezing winter.
What a lovely picture this is of Jesus calling to us. We answered
His call and now we have come to love Him as our Best Friend, Saviour
and Lord. In John 10:27-28 Jesus said:
"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow
And I give unto them eternal life; and they
shall never perish,
neither shall any man snatch them
out of My hand."
Yes, Jesus called, and I answered and followed Him. Today Jesus calls
again, but have you answered? Remember, now is the time of God's
favour (1 Corinthians 5:21). Tomorrow may be too late!
Won't you answer now and ask Jesus to forgive your sins, come and live in
your heart and give you eternal life?
