Knowing God
Knowing God:
We grow as Christians by knowing God personally through His attributes
(values) in the Bible and by experiencing His grace and presence.
In Romans 1:21, Paul warned what many people had become like, and the
same is true for our modern generation:
"When they knew God, they glorified Him not as God, neither were thankful."
We trust that you are not like this and that your faith is genuine, and
that you have a deep desire for more of God.
1. God is Truth:
Now that you know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, you need to know
more about God and His love. When you learn that God is Truth, you
will look to His Word for the answers to life. David knew this and
in Psalm 19:11, he said:
"By Your teachings, Lord, is Your servant warned.
By obeying them,
there is great reward."
2. God is Sovereign:
Is God sovereign in your life and is Jesus Christ your Saviour and Lord?
If He is, then you need to accept God's right to plan your life
for you. God has a plan for your life and He wants only the best
for you. In Psalm 22:28, David acknowledged that God was
sovereign and that He has the right to be our Lord:
"For the kingdom is the Lord's and He rules over the nations."
3. God is Always-Present:
God is always with us for His name in Hebrew is "I AM". Jesus also
used this name especially in John's Gospel, and this showed that He is
God. Knowing this, you will want to live each day seeking to
please Him. In Psalm 139:23-24, David prayed:
"Search me, O God, and know my heart. Try me and know my anxious
thoughts.
And see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in
the way everlasting."
4. God is All-Powerful:
God is Almighty and has limitless power and so we can trust Him to always
be able to answer our prayers and help us. In Jeremiah 32:17, the
prophet declared:
"You have made the heaven and the earth by Your great power and
outstretched arm.
Nothing is too hard for You."
In Jeremiah 33:33, God gave us a tremendous promise:
"Call unto Me and I will answer you,
and show you great and mighty
things which you do not know."
This assures us that God not only loves and cares for us, but the way is
open for us to come to Him in worship and prayer. We can tell God
all our hang-ups and ask Him to meet every need in our lives.
And then we can rest in faith and trust, knowing that God will answer
our prayers!
5. God is Wise:
God is the Creator of the world and each one of us. David said that
we are fearfully and wonderfully made. You only have to look the
organisation of nature and cells under the microscope to realise this.
Our response to God's wisdom is to praise His excellent Name as
Romans 11:33 does:
"O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable His decisions, and His ways past finding out!"
6. God is Good:
As we serve God, we learn that God is good, and this helps us develop a
thankful heart. Praise naturally flows from thanks-giving as
Psalm 106:1 reveals:
"Praise the Lord and give thanks to the Lord,
for He is good and His
mercy endures forever."
7. God is Faithful:
What a blessing it is to learn that God is faithful, and that you can
completely depend on Him! In Lamentations 3:22-23, we see just
how much God loves and cares for us:
"Because of the Lord's mercies we are not consumed,
for His compassions
never fail - they are new every morning.
Great is Your
faithfulness."
What a faithful and loving God we serve. He is worthy to be praised
and worshipped. Let's thank Him today that our lives as Christians
are protected, guided and built up in Him!
God Bless.
