Impossible Nails Contest!
Purpose:
A contest to see who can balance twelve nails against a standing nail.
A more difficult challenge is to balance the twelve nails onto
the standing nail so that none of the nails touch the wood block, or
anything else that might help hold them up. It can be done!
This contest shows that only Jesus can daily work in our lives to
change into people who please God.
Application:
Pleasing God in our daily lives.
Materials Needed:
Several sets of 13 or more nails at least 100 mm long.
The same number of wood blocks about 120 mm square and 25 mm thick.
Preparation:
Drill a 10-mm deep hole in the middle of each block with a diameter so
that a nail just slides into the hole. Place one of the nails
in the drilled hole. Distribute the prepared blocks to two or
more opposing teams and a set of 13 nails.
Text:
2 Timothy 1:12b, "I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that
He is able to keep what which I have entrusted to Him against that
day."
The Contest:
We are going to have a contest to see who can balance twelve other nails
against the standing nail. We will award one point per team for
every nail that a team member can balance.
Well, we have a winner! But, it was difficult to balance the nails
as they are thin and round, and have small heads. It's also
difficult for us to please God. No matter how hard we try we will
eventually fail to do things that please God. Paul said that what
he wanted to do, he couldn't do. And what he hated, he found
himself doing!
Planning to do Good?
Paul found that although he planned to do good, he found himself
doing something that he knew he shouldn't. He went on to
say that the only way he could do right things, was with the power
of Jesus Christ our Lord. Yes, the Bible teaches us that our
lives must be built on Jesus. The only hope of us getting to
Heaven is "Christ in us". Only He can work in your life
and daily change you into a person that pleases God.
God bless!
