Text and Memory Verse:
Luke 2:52, "And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man."
Balancing Activity:
Divide the group into small teams and set out the challenge. A volunteer
from each team is invited to balance on the two crutches without his or her
feet touching the ground. Award points according to the number of
seconds they achieve. Repeat this allowing them to use three crutches!
Have as many playoffs you desire and then award prizes to the winning
team.
Growing like Jesus:
When you need to reach a high cupboard, a stout chair like this one is just the
thing to stand on, knowing that you have a firm base. Luke 2:52 says
that Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
Jesus grew in the four areas and so must we. The legs of this chair are
like these four aspects. All need to be developed to our best advantage
to give us a firm base and for us to be able to please God:
- MENTAL .... in wisdom.
- PHYSICAL .... in stature.
- SPIRITUAL .... in favour with God.
- SOCIAL .... in favour with man.
Missing a Leg:
If any leg is missing from the chair, it would wobble horribly and you would
land on with a thud on the floor. If two or more legs were missing,
the chair would collapse and you would throw it out as being totally
useless.
We are going to do a meaningful exercise so let's pray and ask God to help us
to do it prayerfully and honestly. Now, I want you to evaluate your own
effectiveness on the self-assessment sheets. These are very private, so
please don't talk or share your information with anybody else. (Allow
enough time for each person to individually complete their sheet).
Closure:
Explain that we all need the four aspects in our lives and for them to be
developed as fully as possible with God's help and strength. Give a
challenge for a deeper all-round commitment of their lives to Jesus.
Close with a prayer that the teens will endeavour to improve in the area that
they have chosen.
God Bless!
