Children are Important
Today our children are being bombarded by the attack of the enemy. Like never before, the devil is on an all-out offensive warfare against our children. His weapons are devastating. Many children today are facing physical abuse, sexual molestation, neglect and abduction.
Secular humanism in the public schools are having a crippling effect on our children. Besides this there is the increasing influence of peer pressure, and the moral eroding effect of Television, films and Pop Music. The corroding influence of satanical images and characters in children's programmes is incalculable. In addition many are being exposed to sex, alcohol and drugs at ever earlier ages.
Why Children are Important to God:
Children are important because they are under attack of the enemy. They can also die young and they can go to Hell. Children are important people because they are important to God. Why is this so? Some of the reasons we can find are:
The Effect of Sin:
Sin has a devastating effect on mankind. Sin destroys relationships, physical and emotional health and a person's feeling of self-worth. It inflicts damaging scars that can last for a lifetime.
Sin can be forgiven, but not easily forgotten. That's why it is so critical that we share the Gospel with children. For too long, many churches have been playing a defensive game with the enemy. We have occupied ourselves salvaging teenagers and adults whose lives have been wrecked with sin. Although this is necessary, it should not become the sole focal point of our strategy.
The Church must re-evaluate its strategy to an all-out offensive to win children to Christ BEFORE the enemy has had an opportunity to destroy their lives. In that way, not just a soul has been saved, but rather an entire life.
Children are Accountable:
Much of the teaching on the Age of Accountability implies that God is not particularly interested in children until they reach their teenage years. It suggests that Salvation is totally dependent on one's intellectual capabilities. Until a person is mature, he cannot understand and therefore is not accountable for his actions.
But, what about the supernatural move of the Holy Spirit in a child's life? The Bible states clearly in Romans 3:23 and Romans 6:23 respectively:
"For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."These passages indicate that a person is guilty for his sin, regardless of age and this includes children! We must endeavour to introduce them to Jesus before the enemy has had opportunity to inflict permanent damage in their lives. Children are important to Jesus, so we cannot afford to watch them being destroyed. Therefore it is imperative that we share the Gospel message with young children.
"For the wages of sin is death".
Studies at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa have indicated that nearly 75% of teenagers and adults gave their lives to Jesus while in Sunday School. Experience has taught us that many children are ready to accept Jesus as their Saviour as early as four to six years of age. Claim this promise from Isaiah 54:13 for your children:
"All your children shall be taught by the Lord,
Are You just an Observer?
The Church cannot afford to sit by idly and watch our children being destroyed. We must fight back with the Spiritual weapons and might of the Lord at our disposal. We must claim territory for God. But, this battle requires Soldiers who are trained and equipped with the weapons necessary to defeat the enemy. Jesus instructs us to:
Matthew 9:38, "Pray to the Lord of Harvest,
