When the Going
What's in Your Hand?
Are you despairing over lost opportunities or worrying about the future? You can't change the past, and you will ruin the present by worrying about the future. Rather ask yourself this question, "What's in my hand?" In other words, what strengths, circumstances and relationships are currently available to you?
This question will start to get your focus off past regrets or an uncertain future, and back on what God wants to do, and Can Do do in your life.
Moses and the Burning Bush:
Moses was troubled and aware of his own weaknesses, he expressed fear about the God's call for him to lead Israel out of bondage. So God simply asked Moses, "What is that in your hand?" (Exodus 4:2).
The Lord turned Moses' attention away from his anxiety about the future, and directed his thoughts to what was right in front of him. And that was only a simple shepherd's staff!
Just a useless shepherds staff? What use would that be in leading a whole nation out of Egypt? Oh no! God showed Moses that He could use this ordinary staff to perform miracles as a sign for an unbelieving Pharoah and people!
As Moses' trust in God grew, so did the magnitude of miracles that God worked through His servant with that simple staff!
What's that in your Hand?
Are you thinking about your exhaustion and past failures too much? Do you have fearful thoughts about the future? Recall God's question, "What's that in your hand?"
Sit down in a quiet place, and pray and tell God all your problems. And then close your eyes and calm your mind. As you sit there, let the sweet peace and presence of God come into your room and fill your life.
Then allow God to speak into your heart. Think how God could use you current situation and relationships for your benefit and His glory. Entrust them to God and ask Him to work them out in your life and ministry.
