Growing as a Christian |
God's Values
A value is an inner quality that makes a person who he or she is. Values are those things which are important in our daily lives such as honesty, politeness and being trustworthy. God wants Christians to have good values just as He does. Here are some of them that we can make our own:
1. Holy:
God is completely pure and cannot stand sin. All that He does
is right and good.  1 Samuel 2:2 tells us:
"There is no one holy as the Lord." 2. Love:
God is a God of love and always seeks our highest good. That
is why He sent His only Son to pay for our sins. He wants us
to experience His love and allow it to flow out of our lives to
other people. Jeremiah 31:3 assures of God's great love for
us:
"I have loved you with an everlasting love, 3. Truth:
God is truth and sees and knows everything as they really are.
He never lies, and we can trust His word, and He will always
keep all the promises He has made. Titus 1:2 speaks of our
faith in a God of truth, and hence in His complete trustworthiness
and that He will always do as He has promised in His Word:
"In hope of eternal life, which God, Who cannot lie, 4. Just:
God is holy and so He must punish sin. Jesus paid the price
for all our sins on the cross. And now because God is just
and is always fair, He does not have to punish us if we accept
Jesus as our personnal Saviour. In Deuteronomy 32:4b, God
is revealed as being totally just and upright in all His ways:
"A God of truth without iniquity, and is just and upright." 5. Good:
God is full of kindness and takes pleasure in providing the needs
of His people. In Psalm 145:9 David proclaimed:
"The Lord is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works." 6. Faithful:
God always does what He said He will and keeps His promises, and so
we can trust His Word completely. Lamentations 3:23 assures
us that God is always faithful:
"Great is Your faithfulness." 7. Merciful:
God cares about us more deeply than we can ever understand.
He sent His Son to die for us so that He can justly choose not to
punish us for our sins. In Psalm 130:3-4, David declares:
"If You, Lord, kept a record of our iniquities (sins), Our Own Values:
As we look at God's values, we see that these need to be ours as
well. But, we often do the opposite of what we should or
want to do. Only God can help us by giving us the power to
live right and do the things that please Him. He has the
power to set us free from sin and enable us to live lives that
please Him. This power is found in Jesus.
When we ask Jesus to be our Lord and Saviour, He comes into our hearts and makes us brand new inside and a child of God. The Holy Spirit then starts to mould and change us so that we want to do good things and please Jesus. He gives us:
Power to live right lives. Remember to keep Jesus in the centre of your life at all times.
God Bless!
