Doubt and fear rule many children's lives today. But two paper cups and
some elastic bands show children how our prayers fly up to God, always!
Materials You Need:
Three paper cups.
Several big elastic bands.
Place two paper cups base to base and tape them together. Join a number
of elastic bands together to form a long chain. Wrap the elastic bands
loosely around the cups so that the end finishes underneath the cups and
stretched away from you (see the figure).
Stretch out the end of the elastic bands while you hold the centre of the cups.
Aim where your prayers must go, release the cups and they will fly off
into the air! This shows children children their prayers fly up to God,
If I say to you that this paper cup can fly, you believe me, don't you (Show
a loose cup to them and let the children respond
. You don't?
Well, I'm hurt! If you knew me really well then you would trust me.
I am going to tape two cups together (Tape the cup bases
). Do you think that they will fly now? (Let them
You may have doubts and fears, and these may rule your life. Do you feel
afraid when you go to bed, or when its dark? Do you struggle at school
and feel that you will never be able to pass your exams or tests? Do
you fear that you will never be able to find work when you leave school?
May be you fear that your parents are going to get divorced, and then
what is to going happen to you?
You need to trust God in all these things that He will answer your prayers.
You need to realise that God is the Almighty. Jesus is a real
Person who wants to live in your life as your Best Friend and bless you.
God may not always answer your prayers in the way that you want Him
to. But, we have seen many times that the faith of a child brings an
answer to prayer and even a miracle. God listens to your prayers just
as much as He listens to those of adults.
In Matthew 18:10, Jesus shows us the importance of children to God:
"See that you do not look down on one of these little ones.
For I tell
you that their angels in heaven always see the face of My Father."
This passage tells us that you have Guardian Angels that care for you.
This also means that the prayers of children always reach your Heavenly
Father and that God loves and cares for you with a great love.
I'm going to stretch some elastic round these cups (Wrap the elastic bands
loosely around the cups so that the end finishes underneath the cups).
This is like putting our faith (simply trusting) in our prayers as we
send them off to God.
Now we can aim the cups and let go (Stretch out the end of the elastic bands
while you hold the centre of the cups and then let fly). There they
fly, straight through the air to where I aimed it! In the same manner
we can send our prayers off, knowing that God will hear and answer our
God Answers Prayers:
The Bible teaches us to tell God our needs. Remember, that when you pray
you need to trust that God will hear your prayers. He does the first
time you pray. He knows your thoughts and what is in your heart.
He knows all about the disappointments, fears, doubts, worries and hurts that
you have even before you pray. He loves you, and knows what is best for
God always answers in His own wonderful way and just at the right time, even if
He says, "No" or "Not now." We do not have to beg God to answer our
prayers, all we need to do is to praise and thank Him for hearing us.
And them to trust Him, knowing that God will answer in His own good time.
Don't forget to say, "Thank You" when God answers your prayers!
Perhaps you have a special need in your life. Why not pray and tell Jesus
about it. He is your Saviour, your Lord and your best Friend.
Jesus is near and wants to help you. Always!
