Set Free

The devil comes to steal, kill and destroy us, but Jesus sets us free and gives us eternal life and abundant life here on earth!

Materials You Need:

2 metres of soft 3mm diameter cord.

Knots are tied on all the fingers to illustrate how the devil can bind us with sin.  The cord to is pulled to dissolve the knots and free the cord and show how Jesus can set us free.

Performing the Effect:

  1. Place the cord over the left-hand thumb.

  2.  Push the right forefinger under the front cord and draw up a loop from the back cord.

  3. Twist this loop once clockwise and put in on the left forefinger and tighten the cords.

  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you have loops on all four fingers.

  5. Slip off the loop from the thumb and pull the front cord to dissolve the knots and free the cord.

John 10:10.

Knots ready to be released

All Tied Up!

What do we use cord or rope for? (Let the children respond).  Well one good use is to tie up naughty boys and girls.   Alright, I was only joking!  I'm sure that there are none of those here today!  Instead I am going to wrap the cord around my hand (Do step 1).

Did you know that the devil likes to ties us up (Do steps 2 and 3).  There, I've made a knot to tie up my first finger.  That's because he comes as a thief.  He wants to stop you praying and reading the Bible.

Do you think the devil will stop now?  No, he won't.  He wants to steal as well (Repeat steps 2 and 3).  Now he's made a knot and tied up my second finger because he wants to take away our happiness and joy, and tie us up with sadness.

He won't stop now because he wants to kill (Repeat steps 2 and 3).  Now he's made a knot and tied up my third finger because he wants to kill all the love in our hearts, and tie us up with jealousy and hate.

He's out to get us and destroy us in any way he can can (Repeat steps 2 and 3).  Now he's made a knot and tied up my little finger because he wants to destroy our faith and trust in Jesus.  In John 10:10a, Jesus told us that:

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy."

Getting Free!

Jesus came to save us and give us not only eternal life, but life more abundantly.  He wants to set us free as John 10:10b tells us:

"I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."

So let's do what Psalm 17:6 says:

"I pray You, O God, because You will help me."

Can we do that?  Yes, we can pray now and ask God to set us free and He will hear us and answer our prayer.  Let's close our eyes and pray together:

Dear Father God,
Thank You for loving me so much that You sent Jesus to die for my sins so that He can free me from the power of Satan.  Please set me free from all sadness, jealousy and hate.  Help me to read my Bible and pray to You every day.  I do believe in Jesus and I'm putting all my trust in Him.  Thank you for hearing my prayer.  I ask this in Jesus' name.  Amen.

Set Free!

Jesus has set us free so I am going to remove the loop from my thumb (Do step 5).  Now I'll pull on the front string and what happens?  We are free!

Jesus is our Saviour and we prayed to Him and He has set us free!

God bless.
