Message:

I have here a book of names and their meanings ( Show the Book of Names to the children ).  In Bible times names had great meaning to other people and told you about the nature of the person named.

The angel told Mary to call her baby, "Jesus", which means "Saviour" (Luke 1:31:).  Jesus lived up to His name and while on earth He saved many people, some from evil spirits, some from sickness and some from a meaningless life.  Jesus delivered the wild man near Gadarenes, healed the man at the pool of Bethesda, and saved Zaccheaus who only lived for more money and possessions.

Jesus took the work God had given Him seriously.  He died for it and freed us from the power of Satan.  And now He has saved us and prepared a place for us in Heaven.  He truly lived up to His Name!

God's Name:

God’s name in the Bible is "Lord", but in Hebrew His name is "I AM" which means "The God Who is always present".  God was with Abraham and Moses all through their lives.  He was also present in every new generation that followed, even with us today!  When Moses hesitated to respond to the Lord, God gave him a series of promises in Exodus chapters 3 and 4, where God said:

I will be with you (v12).

The elders of Israel will listen to you (v18).

I will stretch out My hand .... and perform wonders (v20).

I will help you speak and teach you what to say (4:12).

How could Moses know that God would keep His promises?  He trusted God because of His name!  God is the great "I AM".   Because He is always present with His people, God is able to keep and fulfil every promise He has made in the Bible.

Your Name:

Let's look up some of your names and find out the meanings.   ( Look up a number of the kid's names and find their meaning ) .  Do you like the meaning of your name?  And do you live up to the meaning of your name?  Does your name suit you?

When God told Moses, "This is My Name forever", He was speaking to us as well.  He is with us today, and He will be with us tomorrow, and God will be with us all through eternity!  He has promised us that He will never leave us nor forsake us.  And because God "IS", every promise He made to us in Christ will be fulfilled in us!

God bless!
