Cookie-Cutter Christians?

Each of God's children are special to Him.

Materials Needed:

A hand mirror.
A chain of fold-out figures on green paper to cut out in front of the children:
Z-fold sheets of A4 green paper with the pattern below.
Make copies for each child.
Scissors for each child.

Age Group:

Grades 1 - 5 (7 to 10 years).

Look in my mirror and what do you see?  Yes, it's you!  We need to remember that we are made in the image of God, and are not massed produced identical people, like cars rolling off a production line!  Genesis 1:27 tells us that "God created man in His own image."

We are not like this chain of paper of fold-out figures (Cut out the chain of green men).  Would you like to be a green creature?  What would the world be like if we were all the same - little green men?  No, every girl and boy is a "one-of-a- kind".  Each one of us is unique, just as our finger prints are different from everybody else's in the world!   Each of us has different gifts, talents and personalities.

We are Special:

In the same way, each of us has different ways of serving, praising and glorifying God.  David said "What is man that You are mindful of him, the son of man that You care for him?" (Psalm 8:4).  This tells us that God dearly loves us and that He watches over us and cares for us.   Why?  Because He made each one of us special!  King David knew this and said:

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:14).

Value other's Differences:

We need to appreciate one another's differences, rather than laughing at or mocking people who are different to us.  And so everybody who has given their hearts to Jesus is very precious to God.  Just how precious?  Much more precious than all the gold in the world!  Because God has made us His children - at the price of Jesus Christ's own life.  The prophet Malachi in the Old Testament tells us about a book of remembrance that the angels are writing in God's presence.  It concerns those who love, serve and honour His name:

"They will be Mine, says the Lord Almighty,
in the day when I make up My treasured possession" Malachi 3:17).

I want each of you to say "thank-you" to God for making you special.  Let's all pray.

Now, here's a paper pattern and scissors for each of you to cut out your own little green men.  Why don't you do this at home and tell the lesson to your parents and friends?  Don't forget to tell them that they are also very special to God!
