Touchable Jesus

Theme: Jesus is approachable, touchable and reachable. Bible Texts: Mark 5:22-24 and 5:35-43. Materials Needed: A theatrical arm (obtainable from a flea market). (Or a hand and arm made out of coloured cardboard). A cardboard shoe-box and lid. Age Group: Grades 4 - 8 (10 to 14 years).

Message: Mark tells us the story of a man named Jairus. He came to Jesus one day and fell at his feet and begged Him, "Lord, my little daughter is dying. Please come and put Your hands on her so that she will be healed and live." Approachable: Now Jairus had a great love for his daughter and could not bear the thought that she was dying. His plea touched the heart of Jesus, and He replied, "Yes, I will go with you," And so Jesus went with Jairus, and the disciples and a large crowd followed.
Yes, Jesus is always Approachable! Touchable: As they approached Jairus' house, some men came out and said "Your daughter is dead. Why bother the teacher any more?" But Jesus ignored what they said and told Jairus, "Don't be afraid, Jairus, just believe." Can you imagine what thoughts ran through Jairus' mind? And when they came to the house, there were people weeping loudly. But Jesus went inside and said, "What is all this wailing and commotion all about? The child is not dead but asleep." The people laughed and mocked Jesus, and so He put them all outside and shut the door. He then went into the child's room with Jairus, his wife and the disciples. Jesus took her by the hand and said: "Talitha koum!", which means, "Little girl, I say to you, get up!"
Yes, Jesus is always Touchable! Reachable: Immediately the girl stood up and walked around to their complete astonishment! Jairus could not believe his eyes and dazedly hugged his daughter. "Master", he would have said, "It was so difficult to believe You, but You have given me back my beloved daughter!" And Jesus answered him, "Whoever comes to me I will never drive away" (John 6:37b).
Yes, Jesus is always Reachable! Application:
( Take the arm out of the box and hold it out to the children ) I have a hand here that that you can touch, feel and hold. You don't have to be afraid. See, it is approachable, touchable and reachable! Why don't you reach out and touch it? In the same way you can reach out to Jesus as well. He is never too far away to hear your faintest whisper:
Jesus, please forgive my sins. Why not try Jesus now? He's the Approachable, Touchable, and Reachable Jesus! God bless!
