Filled with His Love

My sponge holds a lot of water!

Bible Text:

Psalm 119:64, "The earth is filled with Your love O Lord, teach me Your laws."

Materials Needed:

A large sponge.
Big cardboard labels with "Hate", "Unkind" and "Nasty" written on them respectively, (these will not absorb water).
A bucket of water.

Age Group:

Grades 4 - 8 (10 to 14 years).

Lesson:

We live in a world where many people know nothing about the love of God.  I have some cardboard labels with "Hate", "Unkind" and "Nasty" written on them.  This bucket of water represents God's love.  If I put these labels into God's love, what will happen?  Yes, they got all wet, but the important thing is that they did not absorb any of God's love!  They are like cold and unfeeling people who have hard hearts and don't want to know anything about God.

What about all the boys and girls who love Jesus and have asked Him to live in their hearts as their Best Friend and Saviour?  We love Jesus and our text says that the world is full of God's love.  We are like this sponge.  If I dip it into the bucket and squeeze it, the sponge becomes full of God's love!  Not only is it full of God's love, but there is plenty to share with our friends.

I'll give the sponge a good squeeze while I hold it over the bucket.  Look at all the love that comes out!  We chose to absorb the water of God's love.  We don't have hard hearts like people who know nothing of God's love and are full of hate, and are unkind and nasty.  We delight in obeying God's commands, and in pleasing Him, and being filled with His love - more than enough love to share with all your friends!

God bless.
