The Knob-less Door

The knob's on the inside of my heart's door!

Bible Text:

Revelation 3:20, "Behold I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him and he with Me."

Materials Needed:

A wood or a cardboard heart.
Optionally a stand to hold the heart upright.

Preparation:

Cut a door in the middle of the heart and hinge it with tape.  Use a button or other round object to make a handle and glue it on the inside of the door.

Age Group:

Grades 4 - 8 (10 to 14 years).

Lesson:

If Jesus had to come today, how would you meet Him?   Would hide you head and walk away?  Or would you eagerly run to Him with your arms open wide, shouting for joy?  In Psalm 91:14-16 the Lord says:

"If you love Me and truly know who I am,
I will rescue you and keep you safe.
When you are in trouble, call out to Me.
I will answer and be there to protect and honour you.
With long life will I satisfy you and show you My salvation."

This is a wonderful promise that God has made to us.   But, before you can claim this promise for yourself, Jesus wants to know if He is your Savior and Best Friend.  The Bible says that Jesus is knocking at your heart's door, just like I am knocking on the door of this heart.

Did you notice something strange?  Yes, the handle is only on the inside!  That means that only you and I can open the door of our hearts and let Jesus come in. See, I have opened the door of this heart and now Jesus can come into it.

You say the door is too small for Jesus.  Well, what about your real heart?  Jesus is standing there right now and He's knocking and saying, "Can I come in?"  Let's bow our heads and give you a chance to say, "Jesus, please come in!"

God bless.
