Exodus chapters 3 and 4.
In Bible times a name had a meaning and told you something of the
nature of that person. God's name in the Bible is "LORD",
but in Hebrew His name is "I AM" which means "The God Who is
always present". God was with Abraham and Moses and was
present with every generation that followed. We bless and
thank God that He is with us today!
When Moses hesitated to respond to the Lord, God gave him a
series of promises in Exodus 3 and 4:
I will be with you ... and the elders will listen to you (v12,18).
I will stretch out My hand ... and (perform) wonders (v20).
I will help you speak ... and teach you what to say (4:12).
How could Moses know that God would keep His promises? God's
name told him so and gave him assurance. God is the Great
I AM and because
HE IS, He is always present with
His people, and able to fulfil every promise He made in His Word.
When God told Moses, "This is My Name forever", He was speaking to
each of us as well. He is with us now, and will be with us
every moment of every day. He will be with us tomorrow, and
will be with us forever! And because God IS, every
promise He made in Christ will be fulfilled in our lives!
God bless.
