Leadership Qualities
Good Leaders:What does it takes to be a good leader? A good leader needs to follow the example of the perfect leader, Jesus Christ. Secondly, we need to place our trust in Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. Thirdly we need the Holy Spirit to help us develop the inner strength and qualities needed to be effective leaders. There are many qualities that make a good leader, but the following five are very important. 1. Trustworthy:
God is trustworthy and said in Hebrews 13:6, "I will never leave you or forsake
you." As leaders, we need to be trustworthy. Trustworthy people
have to be consistent and their actions and lifestyles show that they are
upright and true. They are committed to always do the right things and
be a good role model or example. In 1 Timothy 4:11 Paul says:
"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, 2. Teachable:
We need to be teachable, recognising that good leaders need to be learners
themselves. Be open to new ideas and constantly strive to improve your
leadership skills. Proverbs 2:2 says:
"Turn your ear to wisdom and apply your heart to understanding." 3. Enthusiastic:
If we share our excitement about what we have learnt and want to do, it is
contagious and others will catch it from us. Colossians 3:23-24 says:
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, 4. Approachable:
We need to be approachable while still maintaining our authority, but still
able to be a friend to the children. It is essential that they can feel
free to talk to a teacher or leader and be given advice and help.
2 Corinthians 1:4 says:
"The God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, 5. Honest:
We need to recognise our strengths and admitting our weaknesses. God wants
us to see ourselves and our work from His perspective. 2 Corinthians 12:9b
says:
"My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness." Let's be honest with God and with ourselves and thank Him for the abilities He has given us, and seek His help to improve in areas where we weak.
God bless!
