Materials You Need:
A fancy present box with a loose lid.
Insert a letter similar to the sample in the picture.
The Effect:
A mysterious present is displayed while you get the children to guess what's
in it, and build up anticipation and excitement before revealing the letter
inside.
Age Group:
Grades 1 - 7 (7 to 13 years).
Theme:
We need to be ready as Jesus is coming back soon, in the same manner as He
went to Heaven (Acts 1:9-11).
Topic:
Second Coming.
The Mysterious Present:
I love to receive strange and mysterious parcels and presents. I bet
you do too! Well, today I've brought this present with me.
You'll never guess what's inside it! Who would like to guess?
(
Let several children try to guess). No, you are all wrong.
But, I know one thing. This box contains the best present
we could ever hope to receive. Do you want to try and guess now?
No, your guesses are all wrong. You weren't even warm! Shall
I give you a hint? (Rattle the box). It's not very heavy,
but it looks very interesting! Do you want to guess again? (Let
several other children try to guess). Alright, I'll put you
out of your misery and show you what's in it.
Are you sure you really want to know? (Let the children respond).
Alright! Let's settle down while I open the box and show you
what's inside (Open up the box slowly and mysteriously and take out
the letter).
My Best Present!
Why, it's a letter. H'mm it looks very interesting! I need
someone to come and read it. (
Select a child and let him or her read
the letter out loud). What did it say?
"My Best Present to You, I am Coming Back Soon!"
Whatever does that mean? And who wrote this letter? You think
it was Jesus? Yes, that's right. Jesus is coming back soon
and in 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17, the Apostle Paul told us:
"For the Lord Himself will come down from Heaven, with a shout,
with
the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God,
and the dead in Christ will rise first."
"After that, we who are alive and are left will be caught up
together
with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.
And so we
will be with the Lord forever."
Let's be Ready!
Why do you think this is Jesus' best present? (
Let the children
respond). Yes, the Bible tells us that there will be no more
wars, no more crying, no more sadness, no more sickness and no more
death. That's great, and best of all we will live with Jesus for
ever and ever!
When will this happen? Well, in Revelation 22:20, Jesus said:
"Surely, I am coming soon."
And so we need to say, "Come, Lord Jesus!" We don't know when Jesus
will come, but it could be any day, so I hope you'll be ready to meet
Him!
God bless
