Becoming Shining Lights

Bible Text:

Matthew 5:16

Materials You Need:

A miniature torch (the smaller the better).

Age Group:

Grades 4 - 8 (10 to 14 years).

Theme:

Living and doing our best for Jesus.

 

  
Walking with my light for all to see ...

Lesson:

You don't have to be a huge search light to shine for Jesus and please Him.  I have a tiny miniature torch here ( Show the tiny torch and shine it into the children's faces ).   It's small but it shines brightly.  At night you would be able to see it shining from a great distance away from you!  We also need to shine because Jesus said:

"Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds
and praise your Father in Heaven" (Matthew 5:16).

Becoming Shining Lights:

Here are six steps to help us become lights that shine brightly for Jesus:

  1.  Ask Jesus to forgive all our sins.
  2.  Ask Jesus into our hearts and make us God’s child.
  3.  Try to please Jesus in everything we do.
  4.  Pray every morning and read a Bible passage.
  5.  Ask Jesus to help us to be kind to others.
  6.  Ask Jesus to forgive us when we fail.

Letting it Shine:

There is a song that goes:

"This little light of mine,
I'm gonna let it shine!"

Often people will see that you love Jesus even if you don't say anything! They see how you act and behave, and this tells them that you are different, because the love of Jesus shines out of you.  You won't see this in your mirror, so don't worry about it.  Just pray and be determined to do your best for Jesus.   The Holy Spirit will do the rest and you will be a shining light wherever you go!
