Theme:

An object lesson to show children the outreach growth possibilities for their Sunday School or Children's Ministry.

Lesson:

Jesus told us in Mark 16:15 to go and share the Gospel to everyone:

"Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation."

This means to tell everybody the "Good News" that Jesus loves us and died for us on the cross.  He took the punishment for our sins, so that one day we can go to Heaven and live there forever.   But not just you and I, Jesus also wants to be the Saviour of as many other children as possible.

A Sweet Story:

Let me tell you a story about someone who went to Sunday School one day ( Take one sweet out of the bag and show it to the class ).  This sweet represents that person.  He heard all about Jesus and gave his life to the Lord.  He then went home afterwards and told a friend the Good News about Jesus Christ.  He then asked the friend to come to Sunday School the next week ( Take another sweet out of the bag and hold up the two sweets ).  Next week there were two children in Sunday school.

After church, these two went home and each told a friend about Jesus, and asked them to come to Sunday School the next week ( Take out two more sweets and hold up the four sweets ).  Now there were four children in Sunday school!

They all went home and each one told a friend the Good News, and brought them to Sunday School the next week.  Now you've all been good, so I want you to all help me with this story.  How many children do we now have in our Sunday School? ( Let the children respond ).  That's right, eight! ( Hold up eight sweets, then get the children to repeat the story each time, as you continue ).

Now for som REAL Growth:

If the children keep on bringing others to Sunday School, there will be 16... 32... and then 64 children.  And then ... you guessed it!  They all went home and another friend!  Wow, what will happen next? ( Pour out the rest of the sweets onto the table.   How many will children will there be?

Yes, now we have one hundred and twenty-eight children in Sunday school and it only took just eight weeks to grow the class to this size!   Just think what we could do in 20 weeks!

Can you guess how many children we would have in our Sunday School? ( Let the children respond ).  We would have ... wait for the drum roll ... more than one million children, actually 1,048,576.   Now that's something we can be excited about, don't you think so?

Leaps and Bounds:

I think Jesus would be very pleased if we could each tell one friend about Him next week, and try to bring that friend to Sunday School.  Here's something for listening to what it means to go into all the world and preach the Good News.  ( Give each child two sweets ).

Enjoy only one of the sweets!  And don't forget to share the other one with a friend!  Go and tell them about Jesus and the Good News that He loves them, so that one day they can go to Heaven and live there forever!  And then when you get to Heaven you won't be alone, your friends will be there too!  And our Sunday School will grow in leaps and bounds!

God bless.
