Becoming a Leader

I'm a great Leader!

I'm sure that you want to become a leader and so you need to follow the example of our perfect leader, Jesus Christ.  Firstly, place your trust in Him as your Lord and Saviour, and then to allow the Holy Spirit develop in you the inner strength and qualities that you need to be a good leader and example.

There are many qualities that make a good leader, but here are six that are very important to help every boy and girl become a great leader.

1.  Trustworthy:

God is completely trustworthy and promised in Hebrews 13:6, that He would never leave you nor forsake you.  As leaders, you need to be trustworthy and always show that you are honest, upright and true.   Can your parents, teachers and friends always trust you to do and say the right things?

If you are trustworthy, then you will be a good example and role model to other children that you meet and interact with.  In 1 Timothy 4:11, Paul advises young Timothy:

"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young,
but set an example for the believers in speech, life, love, faith and in purity."

2.  Teachable:

A good leader must also be a learner!  You need to be open to new ideas and be teachable and constantly working to improve your leadership skills.  Proverbs 2:2 says:

"Turn your ear to wisdom and apply your heart to understanding."

3.  Enthusiastic:

If you share your excitement and enthusiasm about what you have learnt and want to do, others will catch it from you.  In Colossians 3:23-24, Paul said:

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart,
as working for the Lord and not for people."

4.  Approachable:

You need to be approachable and willing to be a friend others, and ready to talk to them and give them advice and help whenever they need it.   In 2 Corinthians 1:4 Paul said:

"God comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those
in any trouble with the comfort we received from God."

5.  Enduring:

To endure means to keep on going and not give up when you face problems.  When you are faced with difficult circumstances, you need to ask God to give you wisdom, and then give you the strength and help you need to solve the problem.  In 2 Thessalonians 3:13, Paul said:

"As for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right."

6.  Ready:

You need to always prepare yourselves by spending time every day in prayer with God.  The Holy Spirit wants to guide you and help you meet the needs of others.  Do you allow proper time to organise and prepare yourselves in order to be able to lead others?  In John 14:26 Jesus said:

"The Counsellor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name,
will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you."

Good Leaders:

Let's be good leaders who are Trustworthy, Teachable, Enthusiastic, Approachable, Enduring and Ready.  Are these the only qualities a good leader needs?  No!  A good leader is also disciplined, patient, faithful, sincere, loyal, .... and many more!  These however, are good starting points for you.

Do you have what it takes?  Pray for all the leadership qualities that God wants you to have:

Dear Heavenly Father,
Please make me trustworthy.  Open my eyes and teach me the best way to serve You and others.  Make me strong inside to do the tasks You want me to.  Thank You for the leadership gifts and abilities You have given me.  Make my heart sensitive to the needs of others and help me respond to their needs.  I ask this in Jesus Name, Amen.

God Bless!
