Agur was Wise:
We live in a world where some of the people are very rich while others are
very poor. This might not seem fair to you. But in the Bible,
there was a man called Agur who was a very wise man. He wrote in
Proverbs 30:8-9 and asked God to:
"Make me honest and don't let me be very poor or very rich.
Just give me my daily bread and what I need.
Otherwise, I may have too much and forget about You and say:
'Who is the Lord?'
Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonour Your name."
Yes, we always want good things and desire to do well. But, we often
find ourselves in times when we have problems or difficulties.
This hurts us and we need to ask Jesus to guard our hearts and forgive us
for all the anger and bitterness that we may have.
Think of Good Things:
When we invited Jesus to be our Saviour, He became the wise and loving
Provider of all our needs. Sit down now and think about all the
things that God has done for you. He kept you safe last night,
didn't He? And what about the food you ate for breakfast and the
clothes you are wearing now?
I'm sure you can think of many other things. So, let's wait a minute
while you think of many wonderful things that God has done for you and
your family. In the meantime, Paul's good advice to us in
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 is to:
"Always be joyful and pray continually and in everything give thanks,
for in Christ Jesus this is God's will for you"
Giving Thanks Game:
We need to forget about our hurts and rather think about all our blessings.
I want to invent two new words. Instead of shouting, "I want
... whatever", we will change this to, "
I Wanta!" And so
instead of saying, "Thank you" we will now say, "
I Thanka!"
Now we can play a little game and learn how to appreciate our blessings
and thank God for all His goodness.
When we look at the beauty in nature, we can only think of how big and
wonderful God is. We need to forget all about our "I Wanta's"
and spend much more time in "I Thanka's" for Who God is, and what
He has done and does for us. Let's shout out together:
"No more I Wanta's"
As I Wanta Thanka!"
That was good and I like the rhythm and the beat. I think we should
try that again several times. With more "
Thanka's" we will
soon realise that God loves us very dearly and that He knows all about
every problem and difficulty we have. In Philippians 4:19 Paul the
Apostle promised:
"And my God shall supply all your needs
according to His riches in
glory in Christ Jesus."
Lota Thanka's:
Knowing that God has promised this, you will find that your heart will
begin to praise and thank Him for all His goodness. And so spend
a "
Lota" time today saying all the "
I Wanta Thanka's" you
can think of to God and praise Him!
God bless.
