Today's Activity:
We are going to make "Jesus is my Rock" paper weights to serve as a reminder
to pray every day, and to always trust Jesus to lead and guide us in ways
that will please Him.
Materials Needed:
For every child:
A flat piece of rock or stone about 100mm by 100mm.
Water or acrylic paints.
Fine pointed brushes.BR>
Optional:
A spray can of clear varnish.
Felt, scissors and clear glue.
Making the Paper Weight:
Clean the surface of the rock and dry it thoroughly with a cloth. Then
paint on the words:
"Jesus is my Rock!
And I am
trusting Him!
To fit in all the words, first lightly pencil the words onto the rock before
you begin to paint. Then use a fine-pointed brush to lightly paint
in the words in any colours you fancy. Set the rock aside so that the
paint can thoroughly dry. Optionally spray the rock with clear
varnish or lacquer and glue a circle of felt to the underside to give it a
posh finish!
Introduction:
In this world there are all sorts of things that attract us and many are wrong
for a Christian. We need something to keep us firm and straight so that
we can say, "No!" to things that the Holy Spirit makes us feel uncomfortable
about.
Two verses in the Book of Psalms Ch 92:15 and 16:8) tells us that God is our
Rock and with His love and care for us, we will not be shaken or moved:
"The Lord is upright - He is my Rock and there is no wickedness in Him."
"Because (the Lord) is at my right hand, I will not be moved."
We should talk to God about everything that is happening in our lives and how
we feel about it. Jesus wants us to tell him when we are happy, sad,
or afraid. He wants us to ask Him for what we want for ourselves and
to show us what is wrong or bad for us. Our prayers show that we obey
God and trust Jesus to work in our lives.
Keep your rock on your desk or table and use it as a paper weight. It
will remind you every day that Jesus is your Rock and will keep you firm and
true to God in this wicked world we live in.
God bless!
