Shield of Faith

Protecting my heart

Application:

Faith keeps us trusting and believing in Jesus and in His ability to meet all our needs.

Materials You Need:

Two E260 balloons (any colour).

Making the Sculpture:

  1. Blow up a balloon except for 50mm and tie the two ends together.
  2. Bend the circle in two, measure off 1/3 from the bend end, pinch the tubes at these points and rotate both side arms in the opposite directions to form the shield shape.
  3. Blow up another balloon leaving 50mm and burp well to make it soft.
  4. Twist off a 25mm bubble and twist-join it to the knot-end of the shield.
  5. Twist off a bubble at the height of the side joints, wrap the balloon twice around the right-hand side arm joint, make a bubble back to the centre and twist the balloon around the centre joint.
  6. Repeat steps 6 and 7 on the left side.
  7. Make a bubble to the top of the shield, fold it round the midpoint of the shield, make another bubble back to the centre joint, and wrap around this to complete the cross.
  8. The cross forms the handle of the shield.
     

  
Making the Shield of Faith

Lesson:

Our faith is the most important weapon that we have.  Faith is believing in Jesus and in His ability to answer our prayers and provide solutions to our problems.  It is trusting in His power and that He is God, and that He can forgive our sins and cleanse our hearts.  It is knowing that Jesus can change us and make us brand-new inside and give us eternal life.  (Start making the shield as you talk).   Paul tells us in Ephesians 6:16 tells us to:

"Take up the shield of faith,
with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one."

Faith is a shield with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of temptation and fear that the devil throws at you.  Faith brings us salvation, because when we believe, Jesus comes into our heart.   Faith also brings us the answers to our prayers.  Faith keeps us trusting in Jesus day by day, and will keep us until we see Jesus face to face.

Are you trusting Jesus?  Sometimes it means that we have to wait for God's time for Him to answer our prayers.  Faith is not being anxious and running around trying to solve your problems yourself.   Jesus said that we should cast all our cares onto Him because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:6).

Next time you pray, imagine that you have a suitcase full of your problems.  As you pray and tell Jesus your needs, imagine unpacking them and putting them at his feet.  "There!" you say, "Now they are your worries Jesus."

Then, imagine closing up your suitcase and then walking away, leaving all your problems at Jesus' feet.  They're not your's any more, so don't pack them into your suitcase and take them away with you again!! (Finish the shield).

Use your shield to protect yourself from what the devil will whisper in your ear.  "It won't work," he'll say, "You haven't got enough faith!"  Oh, yes you have!  Hold up that shield! (Hold the shield in front of your heart).  Let's repeat what Matthew 19:26 says:

"With with God ALL things are possible,
I believe your Word Lord, and I am trusting in it!"

Hold up that Shield of Faith and never let it drop!
