The Sword of the Spirit is God's Word, the Bible. Hebrews 4:12 says
that the word of God is sharper than any two-edged sword, and is able to
judge the thoughts and intentions of our hearts. (
Make the sword
and pretend you are fighting and thrusting with it). In other
words, it can cut right to the very centre of our hearts, and shows that
God sees and hears all the good, as well as the bad things we do, even
the lies that we tell. Ephesians 6:17 says:
"Take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."
You cannot fight by leaving a sword on the ground. You need to pick up
and know how to wield it. It's the same with the Bible. You
cannot leave it lying on a shelf. The Bible is very important,
because it's the book that tells us about God.
We need to pick it up and read it and then obey what God says. This is
also why you need to go to Sunday School or Children's Church so that you
can learn about the Bible and God. The Bible tells us that Adam first
sinned. We are all related to him, because he was the first person in
the world, and so we have inherited his sinful nature.
The Old Testament way for sins to be forgiven, was to bring a perfect lamb to
the priest. He would then kill the lamb and burn it on the altar as an
offering for your sins. If the smoke from the offering went up to God,
then you knew that your sins had been forgiven.
However, at right time Jesus came as the Lamb of God and shed His blood for
our sins on the cross. He paid the penalty once for all for our sins,
and now we no longer have to offer a lamb as a burnt sacrifice for our
sins. All we need to do is to ask Jesus to forgive our sins and make
us clean inside.
The Bible is also our weapon against the devil. He came to Jesus and
tempted Him, but Jesus chased him away by quoting verses from the Bible.
We can memorise Bible verses as well, and be able to have the answer
to all the temptations that come to us. If we do this, we are using
the Sword of the Spirit in a way that will please God. Use your
Sword and be a winner for Jesus!
God bless.
